VF U5s / Sunday 26th Nov / info

Good morning U5 parents,

Whilst the rest of Valley Fort year groups are off at the Sandy Bay festival this Sunday, us U5s have St Stephen’s to ourselves again.

So we’ll get the tackle bags out again, which everyone seemed to enjoy last time! We’ll practice truck & trailer, 1 on 1s, 2 on 2s again, and tackling (with bags last, we don’t want them actually tackling each other!), and a relay race game to finish.

Please ensure all trophies are returned this week, we were short by 1 trophy last Sunday.

Where & When:
  • Sunday 26th November
  • 8.30 - 9.30am (coaches, please arrive 8.15am to help set up)
  • St Stephens College sports ground here

Look forward to seeing you and all our U5 kids on Sunday.

Best wishes
Cassius

VF U5s / Sunday 19th Nov / info

Good afternoon parents,

We’re at St Stephen’s again this weekend from 8.30am on the pitch please. NB for those with kids in older groups please note again the adjusted pitch times below.

We’ll continue working on those tackle and evasion skills this week, and combining this with the truck and trailer drill to get a two on two drill going, hopefully with some passing and tries scored between the attacking two! All en track to get to a team game set up before end of 2017!

Please also remember to bring back trophies too. Thanks

Where & When:

Sunday 19th November

8.30 - 9.30am (coaches, please arrive 8.15am to help set up)

St Stephens College sports ground here

We’ll be on the other side of the football goal post this week, hopefully with more space to play with!

Timings for older age groups for 12th and 19th Nov at St Stephens:

Because of the surface damage caused by the wild pigs around St Stephens, the layout below will be in place for the 12th and 19th November - when all age groups are using St Stephens pitches. It will also be used in the New Year on the occasions when all age groups are at St Stephens.

Thanks, and see you all on Sunday.

Great fun last weekend with the tackle bags and new drills. We’ll work on those tackle and evasion skills again this week and, I dare say, it won't be too long before we start practicing short games.

I’ve got three trophies in hand already for this week (Robin, just your’s outstanding thanks), and plenty of enthusiastic players from last week competing for them following our one-on-one and tacking drills!

Good afternoon parents,

We’re at St Stephen’s College sports ground this weekend for our session, from 8.30am on the pitch please.

We have St Stephen’s to ourselves this weekend as the older teams will all be at the Tigerfest tournament in Kowloon. So, we’re going to mix it up a bit with a few new games and races, and have a go at the tackle bags!

Please remember to bring back trophies too, thanks.

Where & When:
  • Sunday 5th November
  • 8.30 - 9.30am (coaches, please arrive 8.15am to help set up)
  • St Stephens College sports ground here
  • Bring plenty of water, and suncream your kids beforehand
  • + gumshields, please get one fitted (or a boil & bite type) for your child by Nov latest.

Notes about St Stephen’s ground as usual:
  • There is no parking at St Stephens. If coming by car, try parking at the public parking bays between Stanley Mound Road and Stanley Beach Road (tend to fill by 8.15am).
  • Otherwise public transport is plentiful and Stanley Bus station is a couple of mins walk away.
  • Also no pets allowed, don't let your other kids wander off away from the pitch, and it's still really hot so bring LOTS of water for the kids.
  • There won’t be any catering on the side lines this week, due to the tournament, so please bring what you need with you.

See you all on Sunday. Best wishes all

VF U5s / Sunday 29th Oct / info

Good morning parents,

We’re back at Stanley Fort again this weekend for training, from 10.15am on the pitch please (try and arrive early to clear security).

Please remember to return player of the week trophies, although the parents of last weekend’s new joiners may not be on this email chain yet! If anyone know’s Florence’s parents (I think it was) please can you pass this on?

In addition there have, sadly, been reports of some inappropriate and rude behaviour at the kit distribution desk in the clubhouse last Sunday. Whilst no one in U5s was mentioned, can I please remind everyone that the club is managed and supported by volunteers and to treat everyone involved with respect, patience and team-spirited kindness!

Training, Where & When:
  • Sunday 29th October
  • 10.15 - 11.15am (coaches, please arrive on ground by 10am to help set up)
  • Stanley Fort (PLA compound, formerly British army base) beyond Stanley here
  • Bring plenty of water, and suncream your kids beforehand

Reminders about Stanley Fort ground:
  • There is plenty of parking at Stanley Fort if coming by car.
  • Arrive early to clear the queue and security check by the PLA at the entrance, suggest 9.45/9.50. It may be backed up by 10am.
  • Be polite and comply with any security requests (usually check ID and inspect your car boot).
  • Bring your HKID or passport!
  • Also no pets allowed, don't let your other kids wander off away from the pitch (it is an army base!).
And back on kit distribution, for those that haven’t collected replacement kit from the Batch 1 and 2 early registrations, please do so this Sunday. I remind you to carefully check the size of the replacement kit. Keep your existing kit instead if the new batch is small (and hand back new kit instead).

The final, Batch 3 kits should be available in the first session in November.

See you all on Sunday. Best wishes all

VF U5s / Sunday 22nd Oct / info

Good morning U5 parents,

I hope you all enjoyed a leisurely T8 Sunday last weekend. Looking forward to this weekend’s session with our teams, this time at Stanley Fort at the later time of 10.15am on pitch.

Two quick requests:

1. Volunteer: please may 1 x parent volunteer from U5s assist with kit distribution this Sunday? Replacement kit for Batch 1 and those who made the Batch 2 deadline will be distributed this Sunday (see more below). Please email me direct if you can help here, thank you.

2. Trophies: please can all players who received Player of the Week trophies bring them back this Sunday. No trophies = a disappointed PotW child in a team this week!

Training, Where & When:
  • Sunday 22nd October
  • 10.15 - 11.15am (coaches, please arrive on ground by 10am to help set up)
  • Stanley Fort (PLA compound, formerly British army base) beyond Stanley here
  • Bring plenty of water, and suncream your kids beforehand, it is likely to be hot
  • Gumshields if your kids have them now, these will become mandatory soon

Reminders about Stanley Fort ground:
  • There is plenty of parking at Stanley Fort if coming by car.
  • Arrive early to clear the queue and security check by the PLA at the entrance, suggest 9.45/9.50. It may be backed up by 10am.
  • Be polite and comply with any security requests (usually check ID and inspect your car boot).
  • Bring your HKID or passport!
  • Also no pets allowed, don't let your other kids wander off away from the pitch (it is an army base!).
  • It's still really hot so bring LOTS of water for the kids.
  • If you or the kids do run out of water our food sponsor, 3 Blind Mice, will be selling water, hot and cold drinks, food, etc.

And updates repeated from the Club Chairman’s email yesterday:

1. Kukri kit delivery – please read:

Batch 1 replacement shirts & Batch 2 kits should arrive with us on Saturday. We aim to distribute them on Sunday: Colts at HV6, U11 & U12 at St Stephens with the remaining minis age groups being distributed at the Fort. Batch 3 will be delivered 3rd November.

  1. We need 1 volunteer per MINI age group to assist with kit distribution on Sunday. Please speak directly to your head coach to be a volunteer for 90 minutes.
  2. Minis and Coaches MUST hand back their current Kukri tops so get your child to wear last year’s shirt or a sports jersey (unless you want to remove their shirt on the field and give it to us). You must hand back the old kukri shirt in order to be given a new, correctly fitting, shirt. We have numerous mini spares for late joiners/kids that missed the Escapade measurements but you will have to insert your own child’s names on the shirt.
  3. Handing back the old jerseys is a requirement of Kukri, who do not want any ill-fitting kit to remain on HK island. These items will be donated to a deserving charity.
2. HK Sevens Public Ballot:

The Public ballot is now open for the HK Sevens 2018. The ballot is open until 4th February. I’d encourage you to enter the draw to get one, or some, of the 9000 tickets up for grabs. https://hksevens.com/tickets/ballot

See you on Sunday.

Best wishes,
Cassius

VF U5s / NO training / Sun 1st Oct

Hi all,

A quick note this week to remind everyone that, due to National Day holiday, there is NO training this Sunday 1st October.

Our next session will be held at St Stephens College sports ground on Sunday 8th October at 8.30-9.30am.

Well done to all the kids for a great session last Sunday, really motoring with the balls skills now on the whole, and looking forward to developing further in our next sessions. Thanks also parents for inviting and making our open day guests so welcome, they all seemed keen to join Valley Fort at the end of the day.

Happy holidays everyone, enjoy the long weekend. See Keir’s email from yesterday evening for info on other club updates.

Best wishes

VF U5s / Sunday 24th Sept / info

Hello U5 parents,

All the kids managed very well in last weekend’s heat and picked up the new passing skills, which we will build upon this week. Delighted to have all the teams grouped and named too (with accompanying sound effects)!

Two major points for this weekend: we are playing at the later scheduled time of 10.15am as we’ll be at Stanley Fort ground (see below) and it is also our 1st Minis Open Day for the club (also below), please bring along a friend of your kid’s to join in with Valley Fort!

Training, Where & When:
  • Sunday 24th September
  • 10.15 - 11.15am (coaches, please arrive on ground by 10am to help set up)
  • Stanley Fort (PLA compound, formerly British army base) beyond Stanley here
  • Bring plenty of water, and suncream your kids beforehand, it is likely to be hot

And from the Club Chairman’s update...

Mini Open days, this Sunday

We are holding two open days this Sunday (see attached flyers). For those who have attended the previous Girl’s open days will agree that they are fun events that introduce kids to rugby whilst also drawing new players into the Club – and we do want/need more players in ALL age groups. The open days are run in a similar fashion to usual practice sessions but also allow any new kids the chance to participate in some of the more fun games and drills. Please speak to your work colleagues & social networks and spread the word – and get your child to bring their friends. We will have a small prize (per age group) for the child that brings the most new kids to practice. N.B. In the event of a draw the Head Coach will flip a coin to decide the winner.

All U5s will be at Stanley Fort. For older age groups, all girls will be at St Stephens, boys at Stanley Fort.

See you on Sunday

VF U5s / Sunday 17th Sept / info

Hello U5 parents,

This weekend we will organise the U5s into their four new teams for the rest of the season, and new permanent teams names will be chosen! Expecting a lot of Lions, T Rexs, Dolphins and the like…. We’ll also be working in some new skills recommended by our Pro Coach. Otherwise, time and place as before. A few notes from club chairman, Keir, below too.

Where & When:

  • Sunday 17th September
  • 8.30 - 9.30am (coaches, please arrive 8.15am to help set up)
  • St Stephens College sports ground here
  • Bring plenty of water, and suncream your kids beforehand, it is likely to be hot
  • Gumshields if your kids have them now, these will become mandatory soon

Notes about St Stephen’s ground as usual:
  • There is no parking at St Stephens. If coming by car, try parking at the public parking bays between Stanley Mound Road and Stanley Beach Road (tend to fill by 8.15am).
  • Otherwise public transport is plentiful and Stanley Bus station is a couple of mins walk away.

  • If you or the kids do run out of water our food sponsor, 3 Blind Mice, will be selling water, hot and cold drinks, food, etc.
New Registrations & Kit Fitting:

  • If you have trialled your child in the first fortnight and would now like to sign up for the rest of the season, you must now register at http://www.valleyfort.com/registration2017-2018.aspx
  • For all new registrants and those not yet fitted for their child’s or coaching kit, you must also get fitted at Escapade in The Pulse, Repulse Bay, before this weekend’s training, fitting deadline is 17th September, with kit delivery for this last batch expected in late October.

Notes repeated from Chairman:

  1. Kit Distribution - I hope that you felt that kit distribution was much simpler this year. I owe a MASSIVE thanks to the extremely efficient volunteers who helped out (and thank you Su and Mariana in U5s). I’m also aware that we probably owe them a glass of bubbles at some point! I know a lot of Dads are coaching on Sunday but there was only one male parent volunteer helping with distribution. Fellas, can we get a little better at this next time please.
  2. Kit Sizes - I think that you will all have noticed that the mini reversible jerseys & the coaching jerseys (only male I think) are on the ‘roomy’ side. I’ve been investigating this with Kukri. They have given me some information but the picture is still not complete. This only affects Mini jerseys and male coaches tops. Mini shorts and socks as well as Colts (all) and Female Coaches are unaffected. Can I ask that you give me a little time to work with Kukri on this.
  3. Valley Fort recruitment day, Sunday 24th September: We need more players at all age groups (boys and girls). All Mini Girls will be at St Stephens on the morning of 24th Sept and all Mini Boys will be at the Fort the same morning. Further details to follow but please communicate to your children to bring a friend for a trial.

See you all on Sunday. Best wishes all.

VF U5s / Sunday 10th Sept / volunteers!

Hi everyone,

Please may I ask 2 parent volunteers to assist the kit distribution this Sunday at St Stephens? Thank you very much Su Ritter for volunteering already.

A few extra notices to relay from our club chairman’s update this week:
  • Kit distribution – please bring your kids in any sports kit as per last weekend, and a parent then collects your kid’s kit during the training session. No need to change into the kit during the session this week, please have a Valley Fort runway show with your new kit when you get home.
  • If sizes turn out to be incorrect, please wait until next week to return it and we will assist at that point.
  • Please treat the kit volunteers well and with respect as they are helping us all.
  • Player Welfare Evening – See the attached invitation. It’s open to all parents, coaches and all interested parties. It’s an incredibly important subject so please attend if you can/want.
  • Open day/Recruitment -  Valley will be holding an open day on September 24th at St Stephens (for girls) and Stanley Fort (for boys) – details to follow but we really want to recruit more players at all age groups. Please get your daughter or son to bring a friend for the morning. There is a player referral scheme, but we will also have some prizes on the day.
  • Charity collection - Valley will be collecting old kit and boots for charity on 17th & 24th September, if you have any old kit from older siblings.
Thanks all, and looking forward to Sunday morning. Training details below in earlier email.

Best wishes

VF U5s / Sunday 10th Sept / info

Dear U5 parents,

I’m looking forward to our second U5 minis session this Sunday 10th September at 8.30am, details below. We will re-run the same training programme as last weekend, to get your kids familiar with these basics before we progress with our Pro Coach’s recommended next steps.

Again, one quick request before you read on, please can 2x U5 parents volunteer to assist with kit distribution for our age group which will take place this Sunday, by reply to me please?

Where & When:
  • Sunday 10th September
  • 8.30 - 9.30am (coaches, please arrive 8.15am if you can)
  • St Stephens College sports ground here
  • U5s pitch is behind the first goal post (see attached plan)
  • Bring plenty of water, and suncream your kids beforehand

Notes about St Stephen’s ground:
  • There is no parking at St Stephens. If coming by car, try parking at the public parking bays between Stanley Mound Road and Stanley Beach Road (tend to fill by 8.15am).
  • Otherwise public transport is plentiful and Stanley Bus station is a couple of mins walk away.
  • Also no pets allowed, don't let your other kids wander off away from the pitch, and it's still really hot so bring LOTS of water for the kids.
  • If you or the kids do run out of water our food sponsor, 3 Blind Mice, will be selling water, hot and cold drinks, food, etc.

Kit Distribution:
NB please bring your kids in any sports gear for this session again, with rugby/football shoes or trainers, and then collect your kit either during or after the U5s session.

For kit collection, it should be fairly simple – whilst your child plays rugby you head to the distribution desk, give your child’s name, receive a single Kukri bag with your child’s pre-measured, pre-ordered items in it, collect a new rugby ball, take a mouthguard if available (Armoury mouthguards may not be on site to distribute until 10th Sept).
  • If dry weather – we will aim to distribute new kit trackside by the changing rooms.
  • If wet weather – we will aim to distribute new kit up the slope under cover at the schools canteen area.
Each age group needs at least two (preferably more) volunteers to help distribute the kit. As mentioned above, please can 2x U5 parents volunteer to assist, by reply to me please?

If your child has NOT been measured for kit as yet, please get to Escapade sports shop at The Pulse in Repulse Bay and get them/him/her measured asap. There is only one more kit order to be processed for the club, which closes on 17th September. Kit for those orders will arrive with VF approx 7 weeks later. If you have not yet had your kids fitted, please do so by 17th Sept otherwise your kids will not get kit this year.

See you on Sunday. Thank you all for being so prompt last weekend, helping with organisation (and the odd bit of on-pitch assistance) and for supporting your kids to play rugby!

Best regards

Cassius
