Valley Fort Chairman's update - April 30

Valley Fort parents,

4 things to cover this week:

1.       Training for minis at Stanley Fort this Sunday, April 30

2.       End-of Season Party on Saturday, May 6. It will be a great evening
and so if you haven’t already done so, please sign up…

3.       Aberdeen Festival on Sunday, May 7

4.       Recruiting new players. We are continuing to look for new players,
particularly for next year’s girls (all ages), and boys for U10 and up.
Don’t forget the HKD200 referral fee

First, a quick recap on last weekend:

·         Taipan Tournament. 2 cups (U9, U10) and 2 plates (U11, U12). A
good return. Well done all who participated!

·         Girls day. A great success by all accounts and a big thanks to
Steve Hersey and the girls leaders for making this happen. 20 new recruits…
Please check out these 2 excellent videos– awesome job Aggie and Sonia:

o   Valley Girls Rugby Promo Video   <>

o   Mannequin challenge

·         Stanley Fort training. Thanks to all of you for making the Chiefs
feel welcome and I hope you enjoyed their presence. Only Deano knows who won
the game of touch Valley Fort Coaches vs the Chiefs! Only one injury in the
touch game, and that was friendly fire (Simon Anam clashing with Jon

Also, going back to the Sevens, one more thing: I forgot to congratulate our
colts players who participated in the youth showcase sevens on Sunday
morning. Well done to all of the Valley Fort players who were selected and
then performed so well on the big stage!

1. Training for the minis. Sunday, April 30:

·         All minis will all train at Stanley Fort (except U12)

·         Arrival times

o   9.45 – U9, U10, U11, U10G, U12G

o   10.00 – U7, U8

o   10. 15 – U5, U6

·         Please see attached excel file for pitch layout (mostly the same
as regular weekends at the Fort). The approach will be to have fun, even for
the U8s as they go through their last tackle training:

o   I’ve asked the head coaches to be creative. They may even get the
coaches, mums, dads involved in some touch games…

o   We’ll stop age group training before 11am in order to do end-of-season
awards and farewells for departing players. If your son/daughter is leaving
Hong Kong and won’t play next season, please let your head coach know in

o   11.00. Group photo in front of clubhouse. Enjoy food from Chez Patrick,
and a bit of a social

o   11.15 to 11.30. Touch rugby Pro coaches vs kids & coaches. To be held in
the centre of the field.

·         We will be selling merchandise at discounted prices. Please go to
the clubhouse to check out what’s on offer

·         We will also be collecting old kit, including boots, for donations
to charity. Please take the opportunity to clear out any old stuff from your
kids’ wardrobes

2. Valley Fort end of Season Party, Saturday, May 6

If you haven’t already done so, please sign up for our end of season party,
to be held at Mr & Mrs Fox on Saturday, May 6. It promises to be a Very
great eVent. I’m told the committee have signed up a rockin’ DJ and have
lots of other fun planned.

You can get tickets by emailing Allison Creel on or
seeing Jessie and other parents helping out at the Stanley Fort Clubhouse on
Sunday. Please refer to flyer below and attached.

3.  Aberdeen Festival. Sunday, May 7 at Aberdeen Sports Ground.

This is the last festival of the season and one which has a very different
feel from the mayhem of the big festivals at King’s Park and Sandy Bay as
it’s a much smaller number of clubs and teams and held on the grass at
Aberdeen Sports Ground. It’s a more relaxed atmosphere and the perfect cure
for any hangovers from the Valley Fort end of season party!

Many of you have already been contacted by head coaches to participate. We
are entering 2 teams in each of U6 through U8, “B” teams for U9, U10 and
U11, a U12 team (made up of U11 players) and a coaches touch team. Rough

·         U6, U7, U8: 8:30 to 11.30

·         U9, U10, U11: 9:00 to 11.30

·         U12, Master touch: 11.30 to 2pm

Anybody interested in participating in the coaches touch team, please
contact Ashlee Schroth on

4. Recruiting New Players for Next Season.

We look forward to seeing you back with the Valley Fort next season. We are
keen to recruit new players for next season – in particular girls for all
age groups and boys for U10 and up. Our best source of players has always
been word of mouth with friends or with new people coming into town. So
please do your part and look out for potential new players to bring to
Valley Fort for next season. We will continue the recruiting referral
payments to kids of HKD200 for any new sign-ups in the age categories
mentioned that are a result of their introduction and encouragement (so
think school friends, siblings, new kids in town, etc.)

Have a great weekend,

Oliver Stratton
