Valley Fort Chairman's update - January 22

Valley Fort parents,

I hope that everybody involved had a wonderful time playing rugby last
weekend. For the minis, including U12 boys and girls at Happy Valley, I saw
some great games of rugby being played at all levels and I was glad to see
that our investment in coaching is paying off with some high quality
performances from Valley Fort teams, and many more wins than losses. Well
done!

This week, I’ll keep the update brief, focused on upcoming training, and the
CNY Camp, for which we will arrange a bus service from south side. Other
events of note:

·         On Sunday, Jan 22, the U10 and U12 girls (and colts) will be
competing in the Discovery Bay Pirates All Girls Beach Festival. Bus
schedules will be circulated. Good luck girls!

·         On Sunday, Jan 22 at 2.30pm at THT ground (Boundary Street,
Kowloon; Prince Edward MTR), Valley Fort U19 Div 1 team will be replaying
their semi-final vs HKFC. 10 days ago we suffered a disastrous loss in this
same fixture, but because HKFC fielded several unregistered players (and we
fielded one too!), and also employed even more devious tactics by forfeiting
the other semi-final, the union have made us play the match again. So if
you’re around on Sunday afternoon, head over to the dark side and cheer our
boys on….

1. Upcoming Training Schedule for the Minis

Friday, Jan 20. 6.30 to 8.00 HKIS training for U9 through U12, including
girls. Jessie has circulated the bus schedule.

Sunday, January 22

·         At Stanley Fort. Plan for delays in entering the Fort as there
will be a security check. Also, it is critical that you obey any directions
from the PLA soldiers. They may have some strange ideas about how they want
you to park, but they do have guns! While you’re at the Fort, go visit the
Clubhouse where Chez Patrick will be serving coffee, pastries and more.
Jessie will have all our latest merchandise which is well worth checking
out.

o   9.45 to 11.30: U9, U10

o   10.00 to 11.30: U7, U8

o   10.15 to 11.30: U5, U6

·         At St. Stephen’s. There is no parking at St. Stephen’s

o   9.00 to 10.30: U11

o   10.30 to 12.00: U12

Don’t forget to bring mouth guards, plenty of water, sunscreen and plenty of
enthusiasm!

2. Valley Fort CNY Camp on Feb 2/3 at King’s Park

For those of you who will be in Hong Kong over Chinese New Year, Deano and
his merry band of coaches are putting on another camp, this time to be held
at King’s Park on Thursday/Friday February 2 & 3. The camp will be for U6
though U16 kids. Please bring along non-Valley Fort friends as well. To
encourage more participation, we’ve decided to reduce the cost and to
provide an additional discount for 2nd, 3rd (and 4th for the really
productive parents!) kids. We had 60 kids at the Xmas Camp and feedback was
very positive. So sign up now! Details below and in the attached flyer. We
will arrange for a bus from the south side to King’s Park.

For those of you heading off overseas, have a great holidays and I look
forward to seeing you in February. For those of you staying here, sign up
for the CNY Camp!

Have a great CNY and I wish everybody good luck for the Year of the Rooster!

Cheers,
Oliver Stratton
