One of the earliest mini-rugby Club in Hong Kong, Valley Fort RFC  was founded in the late 1970's and was first known as Stanley Fort Rugby Football Club.  The club was originally based at the British Garrison in Stanley which in June 1997 transferred to the PLA. After the handover Stanley Fort RFC continued to train at the barracks every other week, joining interclub training sessions away from home on the other Sundays.

In 2002 Stanley Fort re-established its links with Valley RFC to benefit from the Senior Sides expertise and provide a seamless path to senior rugby. In 2004, to enhance the affiliation with Valley RFC, the club changed its name to Valley Fort RFC and abandoned its original strip of green and white to play in the same color as the Valley RFC senior sides. Since 2010, thanks to the HKRFU, the club has gained access to the St Stephen’s College facility in Stanley for training on Sunday morning as a complement and alternative to the PLA Fort facilities.

Valley Fort is one of the larger mini-rugby clubs in Hong Kong and has currently 750+ in its mini and youth sections running teams at all age groups from Under 5's to Under 18s. We welcome both boys and girls. Increasing the number of girls in our player base and developing dedicated girls squads is one of our current focus and we wish to actively encourage more girls to join Valley Fort – they are most welcome!

The club is wholly run by volunteers, mostly (though not all), mums and dads of children playing the game. Like other mini-rugby clubs in Hong Kong, our club depends on the continued good spirit showed by all children and parents who turn up to become a part of the greater Valley Fort community. Our coaches are volunteers who share the love of the game and who work enthusiastically to reach the goals set in our Mission Statement. The same is true for the referees at all the tournaments. Both coaches and referees deserve our support and respect. Like the children, all the adults involved in rugby in Hong Kong are there because the game is fun. It is essential that we never lose sight of this simple truth. During the season, we welcome parents feedback and participation in all forms as we wish to foster a strong collaboration between Parents, Players, Referees and Coaches.

We are delighted to have doubled our player numbers in the last 5 years and, as we continue to successfully grow, we strive to remain true to our core values. On Oct 30th, 2010, Hong Kong made it to the Guinness Book of record by hosting the biggest mini tournament ever with 2.610 players. Valley Fort RFC confirming its position as Hong Kong prime Rugby academy was the biggest contributor with 420 kids proudly wearing our red and black jerseys.

In the Hong Kong SAR, more than 4200 children registered to play rugby in one of the 18 official clubs that participate in the game from September to April. Festivals around Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories are a way for each players to mingle and bond in a friendly and family-like atmosphere with children from all over Hong Kong. One of the highlights of the season is our participation in the mini-rugby showcase held at (at) the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens in which the kids also get a chance to participate in the march past traditionally held on Sunday before the finals. Every year, our club endeavours to remain true to the tradition of touring Rugby by participating in one of the regional tournaments, whether in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand or elsewhere.

Competitive Rugby does not start until the U12 age group and the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union, recognizing the need to support the game at the grass roots level, organises U14, 16 and 18 HK representative sides that tour to various countries in Asia. Valley Fort has been well represented on all squad tours in the past and (which) we hope will continue to provide our players with the incentive to improve their skills.
