VF U16's Weekly Update : 11-17 Dec

Dear all,

Firstly apologies for the lateness in the week that this email is coming out this week. As usual there's been a number of moving parts this week and I was trying to avoid having to send out multiple emails and corrections (which still may happen).

Last Sunday, our U16 Div 1 team were in action vs Tigers across at Kings Park. The boys played strongly and had a nice 28-10 win. It was a game that Valley dominated and the structures held up nicely under pressure and the match was well controlled despite Valley missing several regular forwards. Well done boys.

This week the schedule is as follows:

Thursday : 6:15pm-7:45pm , Training at HV#6

Sunday : 10am-11:30am, Joint session with HKFC U16's @ HKFC. This will include some games of 10's or 7's vs HKFC

Note: Any overseas players back in HK for Xmas / NY are welcome to join any training sessions, you're part of the Valley family and we'd love to see you.

This coming Saturday see's the Valley Prem's team in action for the last time this season vs the enemy, HKFC @ HKFC. It's 1st v 2nd and promises to be a bruising encounter. Kick-off is 4:30pm. This match will be followed by HK U19's vs Sri Lanka U19's. Get down to HKFC and support our Prems and the HK U19's that feature several VF U19 players.

For anyone already traveling out of HK for year-end, here's wishing you all a very Merry Xmas and a Happy NY.

Have a great rest of the week ahead.

Best regards,
Scott

VF U16’s Weekly Update : 27 Nov - 3 Dec

Happy Wednesday everyone,

I hope your all having a great week.

First results from last weekend. The Div 1 team had another draw with SKS. This time 21-21. The VF boys by all reports dominated the vast majority of the match, however did not close out the match and allowed SKS to score in last play of the game and convert to level things up. Again a draw is always better than a loss and again plenty of work on’s, but the positives out weighted the negatives.

This weeks schedule is:

- Thursday, training for all @ HV#6, 6:15pm - 7:45pm.

- Sunday, Div 1 - Training at HV#6, 12:30pm-2pm.

- Sunday, Div 2 - League match vs HKUSB @ HV#6, 4:30pm kick-off (meet time 3:45pm).

The playing squad for the Div2 fixture will be :-
Justin Lo
Jack Openshaw
Kenton Hui
Sam Choi
Louis Clech
Joshua Tuckfield
Lucas Dale
Cathal O’Connor
Will Morse
Dylan Medeiros
Victor Marzloff
Alaine Donnelly
Didier Wan
Jules Ellena
Edward Jones
Hugo Breuil
Hugo Rao
Clement Tonneau
Adrian Watson
Antoine Sussfeld
Come Darbon
Archie Davies
Nicolas Lee
Leo Delvart
Ryan Fung
Marcel Dova

Should any of the above players not be available this coming Sunday, please let myself and Andre know ASAP.

Best regards,

Scott

VF U16’s : Weekly Update 13-19 Nov

Dear all,

Happy Tuesday, I hope your all having a great week.

First up, last weekends league match results were a win and a lose to the Div 1 and Div 2 teams respectively vs HKFC. The first match up was the Div 1 match and the boys managed a 13-0 victory against our long term rivals. It was a tight match that was in the balance for long periods. The commitment, intensity and passion shown by the lads on the pitch was excellent.

In the Div 2 match, again the team is showing very promising signs and the improvements in execution are coming along. The team turned in a promising display and finished the match very promisingly and Andre and I were very proud to see the boys  keep going right to the final whistle in near darkness. The final score was a 0-22 loss to HKFC.

This weeks schedule:
Thursday, 6:15pm-7:45pm, Training at HV#6.

Sunday, Div 1, match vs SKS, 2:15pm kick-off at TSW (we will arrange a bus to/from TSW)

Sunday, Div 2, training at HV#6, 12:30pm - 2pm.

VF U16’s : Weekly Update 06-12 Nov

Happy Wednesday everyone,

I hope that you are having a good week so far. This week I have the following to cover:
- Results
- Playing Kit
- Player, Coach and Parents - sideline behaviour
- HKRU Colts Player Survey
- Playing Squads for this weekend vs HKFC

Results:
Last Sunday, 5 Nov saw our entire U16 group travel out to TSW for league matches. First up was our Div 2 team who went down 17-35 vs at strong FK/DBP. It was a greatly improved performance by the Div2 guys and the score didn’t reflect just how close the match was. Keep at it guys it is coming together.
Our Div 1 were up against Tigers whom have recruited well in the offseason, are well coached and have become a very handy team. After being “mugged” in a game of 10’s vs Tigers the previous week, the team learnt their lesson and were “on” from the kick-off, and bar a period immediately following 1/2 time with some ill discipline and a yellow card, the rest of the match was a very good all around performance. The final score was 38-20.

Playing Kit:
All players should now have their full playing kit for this season. If that is not the case or there is any issues with your kit, please let me know and we’ll seek to rectify this.

Player, Coach and Parent sideline behaviour:
Unfortunately right across HK Colts there has been an increase in reported incidences of players, parents and coaches directing inappropriate and abusive language towards referees. We in the U16’s are not angels in this regard by any means and need to improve. At Valley and Valley Fort we have worked extremely hard to set the right atmosphere and the right discipline levels. Bottom line is, if the referee makes a wrong decision, because they are the referee they made the right decision and it isn’t going to change. So let’s just accept the decision, get back and get ready to get on with it. Only the team captain is permitted to speak to the referee in the run of play and if necessary a member of the coaching / management team will clarify any interpretations with the referee at 1/2 time. It’s very simple, let’s set the example everyone else aspires to.

HKRU Player Survey :
HKRU have developed a survey that they are requesting ALL PLAYERS to complete by the end of Nov. I would like a very high participation from Valley Fort U16’s. This is your opportunity to tell HKRU how you feel about your rugby and where things are working well and where they can be improved. The survey will only take you x5 min to complete and is completely anonymous.
Here is a link to the survey >>> https://form.jotform.me/72917660433459

This weeks schedule:
Thursday : 6:15pm-7:45pm - Training at HV#6
Sunday PM : League matches. Both U16 Div 1 and Div 2 have fixtures vs HKFC @ HV#6.
- Div 1 vs HKFC @ 2pm (meet time 1pm)
- Div 2 vs HKFC @ 4:30pm (meet time 3:30pm)
Both the Div 1 and Div 2 teams and parents / supporters are strongly encouraged to support both teams if possible.

VF U16 Weekly Update : 30 Oct - 5 Nov

Hello everyone,

Last Sunday saw a selection on Valley Fort U16’s play in the HKRU 10’s Tournament / NAG selection trials. After a very slow start in the 1st match that saw Valley go down 0-2 tries early and eventually losing the match 2-3 tries, the boys woke up in their 2nd match winning comfortably vs the ‘BaaBaas’ and then again winning comfortably in the plate final vs HKU. Overall a good performance over the day from a number of our players that have progressed onto the next phase of the NAG selection process. A big watch-out though is our warm-ups and making sure we are fully ready and prepared before the match starts and not just clicking into gear when we find ourselves down a couple of tries. We learn from this and move on.

This week the schedule is as follows:

* Thursday : 6:15pm - 7:30pm Training @ HV6.
Note: Thurs evening, Valley Prems Team have a league match vs Tigers @ HV6, immediately following the conclusion of the training session. All players (& parents) are encouraged to stay back and support the Valley Prems in what should be an entertaining match of 1 v 2 on the table.

* Sunday : Both Div 1 and Div 2 have league matches out at TSW.
- 10:00am : Div 2 vs FK/DBP
- 11:15am : Div 1 vs Tigers

We will arrange for a bus to transport VF players (& parents) to/from TSW. The bus will follow the usual Southside pick-ups starting from Red Hill through to HV Tram Terminal —> TSW.

The bus will run to a schedule that will have us arriving at TSW in time to warm-up properly for the Div2 fixture and return at the conclusion of the Div1 fixture at 12:30pm.

The playing squads for this weekend will be as follows;

Div 1
Ricky Lam
Nicholas Laskowski
Robert Cho
Henry Boyer
Bertie Reid
Jules Turries
Nicolas Laine
Alex Braccini
Benji Ward
Sean Healy
Anthony Montajes
Martin Laval
Harry Coogans
Elliott Tchitchiama
Tomas Choukroun
Jack Openshaw
Tim Lee
Kenton Hui *
Justin Lo *
Will Morse *
Jack Seymour
Charles Warren *
Didier Wan *
Quentin Villet

Div 2
Justin Lo *
Kenton Hui *
Louis Clech
Charles Warren *
Joshua Tuckfield
Paul de Macarel
Lucas Dale
Cathal O’Connor
Dylan Medeiros
Victor Marzloff
Alaine Donnelly
Didier Wan
Jules Ellena
Edward Jones
Hugo Breuil
Hugo Rao
Clement Tonneau
Adrian Watson
Antoine Sassfeld
Come Darbon
Archie Davies
Nicolas Lee
Leo Delvart

Injured
Ryan Fung

If any of the above players are not available this coming Sunday, please let me know ASAP and I will adjust the playing squads accordingly.

I will reconfirm playing squads along with the final bus schedule to everyone by Friday afternoon.

Have a great week ahead.

Best regards,

Scott

Valley Fort U16's Weekly Update : 2-8 Oct

All -

I am traveling this 4-12 Oct. I am contactable and generally online, though this coming Fri-Mon expect delays in responses.

Best, Scott.
------------------------------------------------------------

Happy Monday everyone,

I hope that you are enjoying your day off.

Well done to both teams in their league matches yesterday, some very promising signs, though it's understandably difficult in very warm conditions. That said there's considerable room for improvement in both fitness and skill levels so please do make the effort to get along to training. It was also good to see a couple of familiar faces back in Hong Kong whilst on Australian school holidays.

Results were:
Div 1 vs HKFC, a 26-12 win. Finished strongly with some late tries. Always nice to beat HKFC.
Div 2 vs SKS2, a 14-44 loss. Team kept trying right to the end and maintained a good spirit.

This week the schedule is:

Wednesday training : 6:15pm-7:45pm @ HV#6 (**Note: Training moved to Wednesday this week only as HV#6 is not available Thursday evening**)

Sunday training : 12:30pm-2:00pm @ HV#6

Looking forward our next round of league matches will be on Sunday, 15 Oct. Attached below is the latest version on the league match schedule FYI. Do be aware however these fixtures do move around quite a bit (already on ver 6) so I will always reconfirm the match schedule in the week leading up to a match.

Best,

Scott.

* Note: I am trying to get the Div 2 match moved to HV#6 for a 12:45pm kick-off, i.e. Immediately following the Div1 match we could simply walk from HKFC to HV#6, but have not been successful in doing so to date.

Can any players unavailable for the league matches this coming Sunday, 1 Oct please let me know ASAP as our resources may get stretched.

I will send a further communication on Friday with the playing squads for this coming Sunday, 01 Oct along with a confirmation of the venue of the Div2 match. Thanks for your patience.

Also a reminder : please send a copy of your HKID card to the email address: VF.u16.2017@gmail.com  if you have not already done so as we need to complete the player registration process with HKRU. To date we have about 50% only.

VF U16's - Weekly Update 18-24 Sept

Hi all,

Excellent 1st up league matches last Sunday in some pretty hot conditions vs Tigers. Tigers seem to have recruited well over the summer and ran out x2 very competitive teams. The 1st had a hard fought narrow 32-26 victory and the 2nd's whilst they lost there is a lot of positive signs for the team to build on going forward and the boys kept putting it in until the end as indicated with the couple of late tries scored.

This week the schedule is:
Thursday 6:15-7:45pm : Training at HV#6 (even if you have a school match pls get to training)
Sunday 12:30-2:00pm : Training at HV#6

Player registration with HKRU
We are required to register all players with HKRU. Our deadline to do this 30 Sept. This is a simple process in that we need to submit photo and a copy of each players HKID / Passport showing the players DOB.  Coach Andre has been doing a great job getting players photos done and we already have a good file going. We will continue to get photos at training this coming Sunday (so this piece we are on top of).
What we are not on top of is gathering copies of HKID's / Passports showing the players DOB. We will collect this information via email, so what we need each player to do is to scan a copy of their HKID/Passport and email it to the following email address, vf.u16.2017@gmail.com.
The deadline to submit this is next Monday, 25 Sept as we will need a few days to get the file together and submitted to HKRU.
Note: We do not need to know HKID #'s / Passport #'s, so please delete these from the email submitted. Also note that as soon as we have all player registration cards back from HKRU that we will delete all copies that have been submitted and destroy any hard copies held by Valley Fort.

That's it for this week, see you all at training.

Best regards,

Scott

Weekly Update: Valley Fort U16's, 11-17 Sept

Dear all,

Hope your having a great week.

Well done everyone that made it to training last Sunday, it was certainly hot and sweaty, but good effort by all.

This week sees the league matches start, yes we are playing competitive league matches this coming Sunday, 17 Sept.

In a positive change vs previous seasons both U16 Div 1 and Div 2 will now play on the same day and often at the same venue in consecutive matches. This is great news as it will help foster a greater team spirit as well as enable us to train as a united U16 group on the weeks we do not have league matches.

This coming Sunday, 17 Sept we are playing against USRC Tigers, at King George V school, 2 Tin Kwong Rd, Ho Man Tin.
Div 2 : 10:15am kick-off (arrive by 9:15am)
Div 1 : 11:30am kick-off (arrive by 10:30am)
It would be great if all Div1 players could support the players in Div2 and visa-versa.
The coaches and myself are still working through the selection of the Div1 and Div2 squads for this weekend and the teams will be announced post Thurs evening training via Email on Friday.
**Important note 1** Any players unavailable this coming Sunday please let Dayne, Tiger and myself know ASAP.
**Important note 2** We do expect that there will be movement of players between Div1 and Div2 throughout the season. This is normal in all club environments, so if you miss out on Div1 this week, you still have the opportunity to move into Div1 throughout the season.
**Important note 3** Please ensure that all players are well hydrated prior to arrival at KGV on Sunday, start drinking extra at least 24hrs prior to the match, trying to hydrate properly in the hour before a match just doesn't work. Also ensure you have adequate water / sports drink to get through the match.
**Important note 4** Whilst Valley will provide buses to/from away matches in the New Territories, they will not provide buses to/from matches on HK Island or Kowloon this season.

With the start of league matches this weekend it is timely to remind everyone of expected behavior on the sidelines. Please ensure all spectators stay behind the barriers and are only positive supporters of excellent play of both our team and the opposition. Any negative comments aimed at any opposition player, coach or match official are unacceptable and cannot be tolerated anywhere in junior sport. HKRU and the Referees will be strict on this as will Valley Fort. Let's be known as the team that plays extremely hard on the pitch (but fair) and are great positive supporters off it. Thanks.

This weeks schedule:
Thursday evening training : 6:15pm-7:45pm (even if you have a school match make an effort to get to training)
Sunday : Div 1 and Div 2 league matches vs USRC Tigers, 10:15am - 12:45pm @ KGV.

Kit Distribution:
If you did not pick up your playing kit last Sunday, please ensure that you get to Happy Valley on Thur evening and collect it. If you are new to Valley and do not yet have any playing kit, let me know and I will try to get you sorted before Sunday.
If you have picked up your playing kit and there is any issues with it (wrong size?) please let me know asap and we will look to get it resolved for you.

Any questions please let me know.

Best regards,
Scott

VF U16's Weekly Update : 21-27 Aug

Hello everybody,

First apologies this note is coming out later than usual this week, but hey it hasn't been a usual week. Speaking of which I hope everyone got through Typhoon Hato without to much damage and folks enjoyed the day off school / work.

Next congrats to Coach Dayne 'Danger' Jans whom came off the bench and got his 1st HK test cap last Sat in HK's 19-all draw vs Kenya in Nairobi. Well done Dayne, here's to many more.

Great turn out last Sunday in super hot conditions for the 1st training of the season. By all reports an excellent session was run by Tiger and Tau.

Our next training session is this coming Sunday, 27 Aug 11:45am-1pm. Tiger and Tau will again lead the session. It will be hot again, let's make sure the lads are hydrated and bring a couple of liters of hydration with them.

Registration: great to see the registrations still coming in. If you have not already done so please get the registration process completed as I will revert to only sending communications to this seasons registered players / parents from 01 September.  Once registered make sure you get down to Escapade in Repulse Bay and get measured for your kit. Any problems with registration, let Jessie and myself know and we will help you get it sorted.

Kit distribution: Wave 1 will be on 3 Sept at HV#6. Wave 1 means that you were measured in June at Escapade and are registered in the system.

Looking forward, I am in the process of organizing a 'trial' match for Sunday, 9 Sept vs HKU U16's, so keep the date open and more details to follow next week.

That's it for this week. See you all soon.

Best,
Scott

Valley Fort U16's 2017/2018 Season

Hello everyone,

I hope that you've all had a great summer.

Welcome back to all returning players to Valley both from last seasons U16's as well as the boys coming up from U14's and a very warm Valley welcome to any new players to Valley Fort.

Coaches / Management.
This season we are very fortunate to have Dayne Jans and Tiger Bax as the coaches for the U16 group this season. Dayne and Tiger both currently play in the Valley Premiership senior team, they both hail from South Africa are are both professional rugby players.

Ken Littlejohn, Andre Marzloff, Adrian OConnor and myself (aka 'The Dads') will take care of the management side of things and the match day responsibilities. The great news is that combined this is a strong team with many years of experience, so things should run efficiently.

Training
The 2017 / 2018 rugby season has certainly snuck up on us this year and pre-season training starts this coming Sunday at HV#6 (LCSD have renumbered the "rugby pitch" in HV from HV#8 to HV#6). We are currently juggling the pitch bookings for the opening weeks of the season so there will be some different timings over the 1st few weeks. This coming Sunday, 20th August we will start training at 10:30am and finish by midday.

As the season develops we will get more regular training times on a Thursday evening and Sunday.
- Thursday training @ HV#6, 6:15-7:45pm.
- Sunday training @ HV@6, 12:30-2pm.
Note: Particularly for early in the season when it is hot players need to arrive at training adequately hydrated and bring with them enough water / sports drink to get them successfully through the session (good rule of thumb is at least 1ltr for each hour of training time assuming players are arriving already hydrated + another drink for immediately post session)

Registration
This email is being sent to all of last seasons players + this seasons registered players as I'm aware a few folks didn't get around to registering before summer or were uncertain what their plans for this season were. So if you have not already registered via the Valley Fort website please do so at your earliest convenience. If you are having troubles registering, please let Jessie our clubhouse manager (valleyfort.info@gmail.com) and myself (sxdale@gmail.com) know and we can assist you. If you would like to be removed from the mailing list let Jessie and myself know and we can do so.

>>> http://www.valleyfort.com/registration2017-2018.aspx

League entries
The Colts leagues are scheduled to commence in mid-September. For Valley Fort we have entered teams into U16's Div 1 and Div 2 at this stage and if the numbers continue to grow we will add another Div 2 team.

Player Registration Cards
To comply with the HKRU regulations we need to register all players with HKRU. I am aware we have gaps in this process from last season and am working with HKRU to close these. More on this one shortly (in a few weeks), but we will need to submit a copy of each players HKID and Passport sized photo to get the player ID cards made.

Playing Kit
Thank-you to everyone that has been to Escapade and got measured for your kit so far. If you made it to Escapade before the previously communicated deadline (end-June) your kit should be available on Sun 27  Aug. We will also have a very limited supply of kit for people who are yet to order with priority going to our new joiners.

If you ever misplace on of my emails or misplace it, copies are placed on the Valley Fort website under the U16 page.

Warm regards,
Scott Dale

Message to VF 2017/2018 - U16's
Hello everyone,

I hope that your enjoying the offseason. That said summer holidays are fast approaching and the new rugby season will be upon us very quickly. This is the offseason for rugby so I won't take much of your time.

Further to our new Chairman, Keir's emails and before you head off on summer vacation we need you to do x2 things in preparation for the next rugby season, this week if at all possible. These things are:
1. Go onto the Valley Fort website and register for next season. http://www.valleyfort.com/registration2017-2018.aspx
2. Pay a visit to Escapade inside The Pulse at Repulse Bay and get measured for next seasons kit. There is a 7week lead time to get kit delivered from time of order, therefore please get down to Escapade this week or over the weekend (coaches included) and your next seasons playing kit will be available before the start of next season.

Thanks for getting this done and I look forward to seeing you all after summer (if not before).

Any questions let me know.

Best regards, Scott
