LATEST FROM HKRFU - February 2006
Dear All,
The leagues lurch into their final throws, and lots of silverware is still up for grabs! This week attention will be focused on Div 2A, where Club Scorpions face Club Select - can the Select boys do the season double over the Scorps? All fixtures and results at www.hkrugby.com <http://www.hkrugby.com>
This year the Grand Championships will include all teams. The structure is on the website at <http://www.hkrugby.com/hkrugby/fixtures/league-and-competition-rules.cfm> but for convenience, it works like this;
16. Grand Championship rules
8 Team Format (Div 1, Div 4 and Div 5) In week 1 the 1st place team plays the 8th place team (Match A), the 2nd place team plays the 7th place team (Match B), the 3rd place team plays the 6th place team (Match C), and the 4th place team plays the 5th place team (Match D). In week 2, the winners of Matches A and D play each other, and the winners of Matches B and C play each other. The winners of these two matches then compete in a straight Cup Final in week 3.
5 Team Format (Div 2A, Div 3, and Womens 15s ) The team that wins the league gets a bye in week 1. The 2nd place team plays the 5th place team (Match A), whilst the 3rd place team plays the 4th place team (Match B). In week 2, the 1st place team plays the loser of Match B, while the winners of Match A and B play each other. The winners of these two matches then compete in a straight Cup Final in week 3.
4 Team Format (Div 2B) In the week 1, the 1st place team in the league plays the 4th place team (Match A). The 2nd place team in the leagues plays the 3rd place team (Match B). In week 2, the winner of Match A will play against the winner of Match B in a straight Cup Final.
Sunday 19th February - the World Firefighters Games comes to Hong Kong, and the rugby event will be at Shek Kip Mei Stadium. Eight teams of firemen from Italy, France, England, Wales, Australia, South Africa and our own Hong Kong team will compete. The tournament starts at 9am, finals are scheduled for 2pm onwards, free entry, please come along and support our boys!
The Final of the U16 Jackie Chan Colts League will be played on Sunday at 11.15am at HKFC. Between Club and DeA, it's bound to be a cracking match!
Sunday 26th February - Bill Williams 7s, So Kon Po, all day. Come and enjoy the best in schools rugby in this long-running annual competition. Can West Island successfully defend the Cup they won last year?
Mark your diary for this year's "Country of Origin Tournament" - new date, new location, same old hangover! It's on Saturday 25th March at King's Park, and the teams will be England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Japan, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand (unbelievably the 2 blokes who used to turn up for the Welsh team haven't been invited back this year). If you'd like more info about the tournament, please contact mike.Meredith@future-leisure.com Many thanks to all the Englishmen who have contacted John Bruce about playing - he's asked me to let you all know that the first English team training session will be at Sha Tau Kok Village Pitch next Sunday at 6am - please don't be late.
