LATEST FROM HKRFU - 14th October 2009

Dear All,

As the news came through on Friday evening that rugby 7s had been welcomed in to the Olympic family, for one particular group in HK it was an especially poignant moment - Anson Bailey and his fellow Pot Bellied Pigs have long dreamt of the day when the game of 7s would be properly recognized by the sporting community. Finally they can enjoy their DVDs of "100 Greatest Side Steps" free from the fear of public scorn, and that signed photo of Dallas Seymour in Boris's wallet is no longer a guilty secret. It was only fitting that those two legends of the 7s game, Jeff Probyn and Andy Hadyn, were on hand as the Sevens Long Lunch guest speakers to share their joy with everyone. John Hamilton, a former Pigs captain, had a tear in his eye as the Olympic news came through, and vowed he was off down the US Consulate first thing on Monday to hand in his passport and get his HK elligibility sorted ready for Rio 2016. An emotional Bailey admitted it was "a dream come true for all us Piggies", and was last seen disappearing off with Probyn to celebrate with a small salad.

CBRE Club, Tradition Valley and DeA Tigers all continued their unbeaten start to the G4S league season last Saturday, you can read the match report for the DeA v Manulife CWB Rams game here http://www.hkrugby.com/hkrugby/news/news-room.cfm?news_uuid=40633743-C5C5-E901-CCCB-0943353E960F

Breast Cancer Awareness - The Club goes Pretty in Pink
Rugby players from the Hong Kong Football Club will be in pink when they scrum down against opposition as part of a fund-raising drive to support breast cancer awareness. All seven senior teams from the HKFC’s Rugby Section will wear a special pink kit for their league fixtures against DeA Tigers on 17th October, which will be followed by a black tie ‘Pretty in Pink” Ball in the evening. The day hopes to raise more than HK$200,000 for the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation.

The Pretty in Pink Ball, which is open to both members and Non members of the HKFC, starts at 8:00pm at The Hong Kong Football Club in Happy Valley, on Saturday, 17th October, and features, a 4-course dinner and a charity auction. And a Prom King and Queen contest for the most original outfits. Tables of 10 cost HK$12,000 and can be reserved by calling Antony Phillips on +852 6698 4383 / email: prettyinpink@hkfc.com

Rugby on TV

Watch the French Top 14, Guiness Premiership, and the Heineken Cup on Eurosports.

If you can’t make it to Tokyo on 31st October to watch the Bledisloe Cup Match, you can always opt to slip on your lederhosen and get down to Happy Valley Racecourse where they’ll be showing it live on a Giant Screen, with the added attraction of a live band from Munich, the infamous ‘Flying Sausages’.  All in all, a perfect afternoon/evening (I didn’t write that).  See below for details!
