This Saturday the G4S league competition kicks-off, and this season we have another record number of participating teams – a total of 58 men’s and women’s teams competing in 8 divisions! This week’s fixtures are below, and all fixtures up unti Christmas are on the website at: http://www.hkrugby.com/hkrugby/fixtures/fixtures_home.cfm

With so much cheating and controversy in the world of sport at the moment, it would be good if we can try and have a good competitive season played in the positive spirit of sportsmanship – let’s keep foul play off the pitch and verbal abuse off the touchline.

Also last weekend there was the “Don’t Drop the Ball” Tournament Day at PBS with over 250 local students participating – many thanks to Dave Williams and the Police Rugby Club for their support…and on Sunday rugby featured in the Sham Shui Po District Sports Association Sports Day at Shek Kip Mei, many thanks to A-Hau and the tertiary teams who supported that event.

Breast Cancer Awareness - The Club goes Pretty in Pink
Rugby players from the Hong Kong Football Club will be in pink when they scrum down against opposition as part of a fund-raising drive to support breast cancer awareness. All seven senior teams from the HKFC’s Rugby Section will wear a special pink kit for their league fixtures against DeA Tigers on 17th October, which will be followed by a black tie ‘Pretty in Pink” Ball in the evening. The day hopes to raise more than HK$200,000 for the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation.

The Pretty in Pink Ball, which is open to both members and Non members of the HKFC, starts at 8:00pm at The Hong Kong Football Club in Happy Valley, on Saturday, 17th October, and features, a 4-course dinner and a charity auction. And a Prom King and Queen contest for the most original outfits. Tables of 10 cost HK$12,000 and can be reserved by calling Antony Phillips on +852 6698 4383 / email: prettyinpink@hkfc.com

Think You Can Run a Club?

Not quite a charity, but something a bit different – for all those rugby experts who reckon that running a professional rugby club would be easy, here’s a chance to put your money where your mouth is! Waterloo RFC, a well-known rugby name in England, have been on the slide in recent years and now find themselves in National 2 North, however in an effort to get back on track and to fund re-development they have embarked on an internet based fan management scheme allowing rugby enthusiasts to contribute to the running of the club by subscribing to a website and voting each week on club decisions including selection of the team. For £25 subscription on line you can be a manager of the Club and assist in making all the decisions. The website www.mywaterloorugby.com describes the idea and the history of the Club. It is actually a lot of fun being involved and every subscription will help a famous old club get back on track. I believe Dave Williams is considering a similar scheme for the Police RFC next season…
