COACHES BRIEFING

COACHES BRIEFING:  Sunday 28th September 2008

  1. Please remember to pen your weekly training plans and keep them (as well as give a copy to Hugh)
  2. As ever, lets get coaches on the coaching and ref courses (again Hugh is the main point of contact) and as many as possible on the First Aid courses; for the latter please ensure you know which of your squad has medical training so you know whom to call upon if needed
  3. Some squads have yet to upload their webpages with the weekly reports (deadline is Tuesday close of play weekly) as well as squad and coaches photos/contacts
  4. Also, please would those yet to do so update Elisabetta so she can complete the Contacts page
  5. Please also remind all players to wear mouthguards
  6. Notify Kim Murphy as soon as possible on any errors in your updated team lists
  7. Anyone still without the new kit should see Tonda on Sunday in the Clubhouse
  8. As I did not receive any Play Up/Down forms on Sunday as requested, I assume there are none which is great…..well done to all; if however there was an oversight, the coming Sunday is the final chance for players already registered as ALL forms have to be submitted to the Mini Union next Tuesday and any after that will be rejected (other than new players who join throughout the season)
  9. You will soon receive a mail from Bob Taylor and it is imperative that you respond promptly
  10. SINGAPORE TOUR: Deadline is Friday for booking forms and payment so those concerned must follow up NOW and I would like to receive an email from the respective Head Coaches by Saturday morning advising how many players in their squads will participate

Thanks,

Nick Pasha

Dear all

Here is the dreaded email referred to by Nick above! I have not yet met many of you so hope to do that over the coming weeks, c/o Carl. I am normally at the Fort Sunday mornings with Colin in the under 10's (I am the fat one with the red face sweating profusely!!). Although this is only my second season at VF, it is clear that the numbers of kids are very much on the up and this presents new challenges for everyone involved on the organisational side. So while Nick will keep talking to you on the rugby side, I have volunteered to assist our great leader in sorting out some of the more mundane but nonetheless important 'other' issues. Here are a couple:

1. First aid - we need to get our act together to make sure there is at least one person with medical/first aid training at training each Sunday for the whole duration. We also need to arrange for the first aid kit to be where it should be with regular checks and replenishment (if there are no objections I can get my wife to do this as she is from a medical background).  On the matter of first aiders there are a couple of ideas which spring to mind - identify a list of first aiders (could be parents and coaches) and do a weekly rota - insist that each age group has a qualified first aider within its coaching team - ask each age group to take on the first aider responsibility on a rota week by week. I am sure there are other ways.
Any thoughts?

2. Valley seniors - representatives from the seniors have made a suggestion that kids from the mini group could go along to senior games dressed in their kit and act as mascots or ballboys - there are obviously some benefits for the kids here also. Perhaps we would start with one or two of the big games and take it from there. What do you think? I have asked my own son and he is keen.

3. Coach the coaches  - a suggestion has been made that as we have some top quality coaches in our midst we should arrange a refresher session one weekend soon. Thoughts?

Let me know your thoughts on these matters and we can take things from there. Plenty more to come.......!!

All the best,

Bob Taylor.
