Message from the Coach:

This season was a very encouraging one for the U10's.  We had enough players for 2 teams and split these into the "Black Team" for the more experienced players and "Green Team" for those less experienced or new to rugby.

We also chose to move the players into appropriate positions in the forwards and backs, based upon their aptitude, skills, size, speed and strength.

These were moves that I believe benefit the players in the long run in that they learn to play in position and play together as a team much more effectively than the constant swapping of positions and team mates favoured by many of the other clubs.

However it meant that the first half of the season was tough for the Greens but this helped them bond together and they came through with flying colours, and had some truly outstanding games in the second half of the season, most notably their emphatic win over the Discovery Bay Pirates at the Kings Park Festival. (The DB Pirates had previously beaten the Greens at an earlier festival). This was one of their finest moments and the team knew it. When the final whistle went...the look of joy on all their faces was fantastic to see! These players have all made huge progress and we're very proud of each and every one of them...

The Black team had a great season and proved themselves to be one of the better teams in HK for this age group...and were definitely the team the other clubs wanted to beat. They quickly developed into a very formidable unit and demonstrated awesome defensive qualities along with very potent powers of attack. This was best highlighted during our Singapore tour where the "Blacks" went through to win "The Cup" without losing a game or conceding a try !  This was a fantastic achievement against some tough opposition and seeing the boys receive their medals and "The Cup" was amazing.... a really great moment for us all!

So, in summary, I feel the season was a huge success...the players made great progress, they became a team, they bonded and they enjoyed the wonderful game of Rugby and most of all...I think they all had some fun!!!

My thanks to my 2 brilliant assistant coaches Andy (who along with Abby is sadly leaving HK and will be sorely missed) and Paul (thank goodness one of our coaching staff is French!), my new recruit Jarrod the "cone-man", Tonda for all her superb organisation, our photographic fathers; namely David, Alain and Roger for some excellent memories of the season, and of course all the parents for their support.

Also my personal thanks to Carl and Hugh for their support and running of the club and Nick for his work as Head of Mini Rugby, along with Kim, Sally, David and everyone else involved in making Valley Fort the great club it is...

And lastly...thanks to all the players...without you there is no Valley Fort...it’s been a real pleasure to coach you this season and I hope to see as many of you back again in September for another great season!
