from the Coaches:
Well...Team, Parents and Fellow
Coaches
The BIG day came and the adrenalin was pumping...for the boys
and us coaches ! Everyone turned up on time (thanks) and our
first team played Sandy Bay 1, who were fired up to try to
beat us for the first time...It was a great game, with some
excellent defensive work from our forwards and good handling
from our backs. The match was very evenly balanced and ended
up a 3-3 draw, although we were unlucky not to score again
towards the end. This result means that our first team ended
the season with only one official loss at a festival, and
multiple wins over every other team in the age group...an
incredible record for the boys !
Our seconds team took on dea-Tigers 2, who are probably the
best seconds side in the tournament...and a tough game ensued,
with Tigers scoring first and taking a 2-0 lead, before our
team fought back and through great team-work and ended up
with a 3-3 draw. Again, this is a fantastic effort from our
seconds team and they have made excellent progress throughout
the year...bearing in mind this was the first season of rugby
for many of the team, this makes their accomplishments even
more impressive !
Sunday was a very proud day...the team were incredibly excited
going down into the tunnel and out onto the pitch...the shouts
of "Valley...Valley..." was almost deafening...and
once out onto the stadium the roar of the crowd was awesome.
The march past was tremendous...what an experience for the
team, seeing the teams up close and cheering for their favourites
(The HK Team got a rousing reception from our Valley Team
!) was a fitting end to their season.
So there we have it...the end of another season...I would
like to take the time to thanks a few people:
- Tarmo Saar, who started off the season
as our Head Coach and set up the foundations for the teams
success this year...cheers mate and good to see you again
at the 7's ! (even if NZ did thrash your boys! )
- Andrew Saar...Thanks for your contribution
to the beginning of the season...always out in 110% effort
on the field ! And a big thanks to Andrew for playing with
us again on Saturday
- Patrick, Carl & Paul...my fellow
coaches...not only have you been great guys to work with
but you are a good bunch of lads as well ! ( Although Patrick
is a bit of a Queen...and Paul looks good as a blonde !
)
- Hugh...tireless in everything he does...a
rock and the club are lucky to have you mate...thanks for
all your support and assistance.
- Chrissie, my wife...for putting up with
all the early Sunday mornings ! xxx
- The Parents...without your support and
encouragement the team would not work...
- The Team themselves: I am immensely proud
of every player in the squads this year...many who have
never played the glorious game of rugby before. The entire
team had a great season and I wish them all the best and
hope to see them back again next season.
...and lastly...this is what it's
all about: what a fantastic weekends rugby...again the HK7's
proves to be amongst the best sporting events in the world
today, passion, pride, skills, speed and a lot of FUN ! ...and
the right team won !
Regards,
Barrie
